BRACKO and PINPLAY by Anne Carson. 2011-10-28.
Notes from Source: The Department of Greek and Latin proudly presents two performance pieces by renowned poet, translator, and classicist Anne Carson and her collaborator, Robert Currie, in conjunction with the Wexner Center exhibition Elliott Hundley: The Bacchae. Carson, like Hundley, finds much that is contemporary in classical Greek and Roman culture. BRACKO is a multimedia performance of the poetry of Sappho, as translated by Carson in her collection If Not, Winter: Fragments of Sappho. It will be performed by Carson, Currie, artist Elliott Hundley, and Richard Fletcher, an assistant professor in the Department of Greek and Latin. PINPLAY is Carson’s reimagining of Euripides’s The Bacchae, filtered through Elliott Hundley’s artwork and written for the catalogue of the exhibition. This premiere presentation will be directed by Carson and performed by a volunteer group of Ohio State students. Stay after the performances for a Q & A with Carson, Currie, Hundley, Fletcher, and the volunteer performers. Anne Carson will sign books in the Wexner Center Store after the Q & A. Cosponsored by the Ohio State’s Department of Greek & Latin, Division of Arts & Humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Theatre, and the Wexner Center. https://wexarts.org/public-programs/bracko-and-pinplay-anne-carson
