Lots of Guns. 2003-05.
Further Notes: Lots of Guns, originally composed as a contribution to a “Tribute to Gertrude Stein” organized by Susan Sontag for Pen American Center, had its debut at the Donnell Library in New York City in March 2003 with five performers, including me. The text was mainly spoken, with italicized portions sung a capella to the tune of “On the Trail of the Lonesome Pine,” allegedly Gertrude Stein’s favorite song. Performers were equipped with a triangular white paper flag on a long stick, held paralell to the right leg then snapped smartly up and down at once, by all in unison, to mark the start of each section. Savitri Durkee directed the production with characteristic crackle.
